Just a quick Sunday post to showcase my alternative use for a cake stand, as a perfume stand! I was bought this lovely Laura Ashley stand for Christmas, and whilst I'd love to constantly fill it with sweet treats, my waistline says otherwise! I couldn't bare to have it packed up in a kitchen cupboard, so instead it's taken pride of place on my chest of drawers.

The only problem is some of my favourites are just too tall so I've had to lie them sideways...c'est la vie!

So Fresh & So Clean...Label M Brunette Dry Shampoo.

As most brunette's will know, trying to rock traditional dry shampoo can either leave you with a grey cast that you nan would be proud of...or cramp in your hand.

Now, Coloured dry shampoo is not a new thing, Batiste came out with one a couple of years ago, and It really didn't do the trick for me.

However, I'm beginning to warm to Label M's efforts. It's easy to use, a none offensive dark brown colour, and really does give you an extra day if you fancied that extra ten minutes in bed.

The smell reminds me slightly of brandy, which may be slightly worrying to some. I however, quite like smelling like a Christmas Pudding. It gives me volume and even if I have fresh hair, it gives it a great messed up look.

At £10.50 for 200ml, it's not the cheapest product of the bunch, but if you really struggle to banish the grey from darker hair, it's worth a go.

Hair Inspiration.

As far as my hair goes, I'm pretty low maintenance, I get it cut every couple of months and I haven't experimented past "a few long layers to give it some movement" for about three years. But, recently the urge to try something new has wheedled its wicked way back into my conciousness.

After a string of interesting hair styles in my teens (I don't think I'll ever live the ill advised chunky blonde highlights down), I've learnt that sometimes, safe can be OK. Safe can occasionally be more than OK!

But, I'm dreaming of hair like this...

Le sigh.

I think as spring/summer approaches I'm going to take the plunge. I don't particuarly want all out 'ombre' as I think it's a bit past it's best. But a more sublte 'Balayage' look might be for me.

I have quite warm undertones in my hair already (I haven't worked out if it's natural or from the ill advised canary stripes) but the best result would be to accentuate that. Think a light hitting the hair colour.

I snapped a quick shot of my hair this morning (ignore hoodie, no make up, rabbit in headlights) in the bright sunshine. It's not a brilliant shot but it's picked up the colour I want, what do you think?

Mavala Elle Polish.

I was perusing the ailses of Boots last week, and I decided to crouch down and investigate the rather unappealing Mavala stand, it was messy, disorganised and didn't look promising. But I hit upon a little bit of Gold.

As all beauty 'enthusiasts' will know, we tend to keep a mental note of many of the products that tickle our fancy in almost encyclopaedic fashion, and I'd filed this little nail polish away nearly 2 years ago (!) when I noticed it on this post by Yinka. We have a scary ability for product recall...

It was a complete impulse buy, and I didn't think it would be a particularly useful addition to my already overflowing 'sludge collection'.

It goes on in 2 coats, it's a beautiful creamy mink colour with a purple undertone. It's not left my nails for about a week.

This is my first encounter with Mavala, and so far it's a winner.

The Lipstick Project: MAC Jazzed

When I began the Lipstick Project, I expected to rediscover some long lost favourites, but I also fully expected to have a few "what was I thinking" moments...

Case in point, MAC Jazzed. When this came out with the In The Groove collection in 2010 (I just googled it and can't believe it's been sitting in my drawer for that long!) I remember this being one of the must have items. I'm glad to say now I try very hard to stay away from hype, and this is a good example of why!

I'm just not 'jazzed' about Jazzed. It's far to orange for my skin tone, and despite it being a Creamsheen formula, It just relentlessly accentuates every last bit of dryness on my lips.

Jazzed is a great example of lipstick that looks to die for in the tube and even on the hand, but unless wearing your swatches with pride becomes the next hot thing, I'm out.

I will concede, this look miles better when you have a bit of a tan, but when I'm rocking my Pale Pauline look, it just washes me out. Surprisingly, the only way I've found to make this colour wearable, is to neutralise it slightly with Myth...a notorious corpse colour!

A Walk In The Woods.

I've gone for something a bit different in the photo department today, choosing to take advantage of the woodland behind my house and the use of my sister's "photography skills".

After what felt like decades of indecision, I finally plumped for the Barbour Beadnell Wax Jacket, and I couldn't say no to some beautiful Liberty lining.

The Jacket is surprisingly warm, comfortable and I've already worn it to death, It's a bit of an investment, but it's one that is already paying its way in my wardrobe.

The rest of the outfit is typical of my everyday style, and the shorts are my ultimate back up plan when I can't find anything else to wear.

Finally, I have nothing but respect for regular outfit posters, for every normal looking photo I managed to get, there are ten photos of me being a gurning/cross eyed/ridiculous idiot. Just me with the problem?!

Finding Mr Bright.

If like me, you feel like you're on a constant quest to achieve perfect glowing skin, Benefit have come up with a nifty little kit to send you in the right direction. Enter - Finding Mr Bright.

I've always been a fan of Benefit sets. One of my first ever make up products was the cult Benetint with High Beam thrown in for good measure. I'm glad to see High Beam making an appearance in this set, and love the small deluxe sample size, as it's so perfect for travelling.

I've already got the cheaper 2True version of Posie Tint so I was never that inclined to spend my pennies on it, but it's a lovely subtle pink flush that compliments High Beam well.

Girl Meets Pearl is an interesting product, whether you mix it with moisturiser to give you an extra dose of radiance, or apply directly to the areas you want to illuminate, it appears to be an all over glow giver.

My one gripe? Erase Paste. It always seems to be a gamble when you put in a foundation or concealer into a gift set. Shade 2 is just about OK for my skintone, although I think I'll save this for summer...read too orange. I feel this may alienate some people from picking up an otherwise adorable set.

The Lipstick Project: Shy Girl.

In my last post, I talked about trying to get more use out of my lipsticks, and so far, it seems to be working.

My new/old favourite has definitely been Shy Girl, I wore it to go out on Saturday night and then again on Sunday. It's the perfect understated peachy nude, it's not too offensive and not too orange that it clashes with my skin tone. It's a safe colour, but just adds a little something if you want a chic, polished look.

Shy Girl is the perfect lipstick to ease myself back into lipstick wearing, it's just been too long!

Storage Solutions.

I'm a sucker for storage and organisation. When I was given this as a gift, I literally couldn't wait to pop all of my bits and pieces into it.

It's provided the perfect place to put most of my favourite MAC lipsticks and I use the other compartments for my everyday essentials.

I've found a very similar one here and if you google 'acrylic make up organiser', a wide selection magically appear.

I've popped in on a Glossybox that contains other bits and pieces, it really is the perfect size to do so!

I'm hoping that having a few more lipsticks out on show will encourage me to use them up, all in the spirit of this months theme - using up products!

Sweet Heart How To.

For Christmas, My lovely Sister spoiled me with a big bag of baking bits and bobs (alliteration win). As she's coming back to stay for a week, I thought I better whip her up some sweet treats.

I used a really simple recipe for shortbread, It's basically foolproof.

Grab:

4oz Butter

4oz Sugar

6oz Plain Flour

What To Do:

Step 1: Cream your butter and sugar together until they form a paste.

Step 2: Sieve your flour into and mix into a breadcrumb consistency.

Step 3: Get your hands dirty, form into a ball! (Add a tiny bit of milk if you think it's a little dry).

Step 4: Flour a surface, and roll out to a thickness of about 1cm. Use whichever cutter you like (but we all know hearts are the cutest).

Step 5: Leave to chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Step 6: Bake for 15-20 minutes at 190C (BUT KEEP AN EYE ON THEM), I just caught mine in time...some are already a little too golden brown!

Step 7: Leave to cool, ice if you want to or eat plain.

I decided on pink icing, some in lines, others I went to town with some sprinkles too (it might have also been to cover the darker ones up...)

I recalled Milly icing her very own heart biscuits like this, so I took some "inspiration".

These really are the easiest biscuits to whip up if you fancy something sweet in a hurry, you'll probably already have everything in your kitchen too.

Now, the biggest challenge is going to be leaving them all for Hannah...

Of course, I tend to grab different things depending on my mood, but I usually stick to these products.

Little Extras

If I want to make my make up last longer I'll add a foundation primer like the Arbonne one I'm using up at the moment.

My top eyeshadow choice on a day to day basis (If I can be bothered) is MAC Jest or Orb, such staples!

My mascara changes with my mood, I'm trying to use up about 8 at the moment...oops!

I also use ELF Mineral Blush in Coral & MAC Harmony to sculpt etc.

Daddy's Girl.

This weekend marked my father's l'anniversaire. Being the dutiful daughter that I am, I went over to see him & take him presents etc.

I decided to crack out my absolute favourites of the moment...the burgundy leigh jeans. I have seen these EVERYWHERE at the moment, but hey, they're popular for a reason.

I just teamed the jeans with this lightweight cream jumper from Topshop...I bet many of you have both of these in your wardrobe...!

I just wore this lovely little necklace that I found in Oxfam...yeah boi. Finally, I wore my New Look suede wedges, take a closer look here.

Current Foundation Routine.

So, Basically, NARS Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc + Real Techniques Buffing Brush = BLOODY AMAZING SKIN.

NARS Sheer Glow has been a long time favourite of mine, but for inexplicable reason (I have an obscene number of foundations on the go) I abandoned it.

The light fluid consistancy of Sheer Glow allows the Buffing Brush to pick up just the right amount of foundation from the back of my hand, and it buffs it in like an absolute dream. The major plus point of this brush is that's pretty much impossible to slap too much product on at once, you can easily build up a few thin layers and choose your level of coverage easily.

I usually dust this with a light powdering of MAC MSF Natural, but, I steer clear if I know I'm going to be photographed. This can just about avoid major ghost face without the powder but with? You're on a one way journey to ghost town.

The bad news? My Sheer Glow is feeling suspiciously empty & I'm on a complete foundation ban until I least half the amount I have on the go...le sigh.

If I need a bit of extra coverage, it's still Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection all the way. I haven't photographed due to the tube being offensive. If I feel the need for a primer, I've been using the Arbonne Make Up Primer.

In A Perfect World.

For about a year now, Oilatum has been my best friend. It's a no nonsense, simple face cream that does what it says on the tin.

Enter Origins, A Perfect World.

I opened up a joyous box of Origins goodies on Christmas Day and found this moisturiser alongside the Super Spot Remover (I haven't had to try this yet- touch wood) and the Origins Ginger Essence Sensuous Skin Scent - to.die.for.

Oilatum is fail-safe, moisturising, but doesn't exactly exude the pamper power that A Perfect World does.

It has a gentle fresh fragrance that screams 'Origins' it's slightly herbal without being offensive. One of the main reasons I adore Origins so much is the ethos behind the brand, products formulated without parabens, mineral oil, petroleum, paraffin, synthetic fragrance or colour, animal ingredients and general nasties.

The cream glides onto and sinks in to leave ridiculously soft skin, I've noticed an improvement in the general appearance of my skin. Whether it's the miracle cream or changing up my moisturiser, I still can't get enough of the stuff.

At £32.00 a pop, it just can't compete with the bargain power of Oilatum, but I'm beginning to think it's worth the investment.

I'm considering taking the plunge and ordering A Perfect World cleanser and possibly a cheeky VitaZing, what do you think?

Real Techniques.

If you don't know about Pixiwoo, 1. Where have you been? 2. Go and educate yourselves now!

One half of the dynamic make up duo, Samantha Chapman bought out her very own range of brushes in 2011, and I have been fighting the urge to indulge ever since.

When I found them on sale for £17.99 on Love Make Up , It tipped the balance. They were mine.

I plumped for the core collection. Containing four essential face brushes, each made from ridiculously - rub it on your cheek - soft taklon fibres, they'd act as a therapeutic tool if nothing else.

Luckily, that's not the case.

A quick rundown.

Contour Brush.

As far as contouring goes, I've stuck strong to my MAC 168. I haven't picked it up once since this took up residence in my brush kit. It's the perfect size to really contour into the hollow of you cheekbone, it picks up just the right amount of colour and blends beautifully.

Pointed Foundation Brush.

I'm not really one for flat foundation brushes, and this hasn't really changed my mind. But it's an absolute winner for cleaning up under the eyes or getting right into the corner of your nose. It's the perfect shade and density to place the product without streaking.

Detailer Brush.

Despite the large collection of brushes I own, I've never felt the need to use a small concealer brush like this one. However, this little brush is perfect for precision touch up's to create a (cliché warning) flawless face.

The synthetic fibres make it brilliant for using with most concealers and place the product well.

Buffing Brush.

I've saved the best till last. I love this brush. It's soft, it's dense, it's delicious.

I've used it both with powder products and cream products and it's a dream to work with, it's blends and buffs with ease and is just a lovely tool to have. It's not as dense as my trusty Sigma F82, but the extra flexibility is welcomed.

Negatives?

Overall, I can't really say a bad word against the brush set. I'm not raving about the pointed foundation brush, but that's personal preference. The brush performs just as well as the others and is made well.

The design of the brushes might not be to everyone's taste, but they certainly cut a distinct silhouette. You won't be confusing these with another brand anytime soon.

My one gripe is with the case/stand. I just can't get over the fact it feels like a shoulder pad. It feels cheap and doesn't do what's nestling inside any justice. But, if that's my only issue, we're doing well!

Obviously aimed at beginners, they're clearly marked with what they do and the box is clearly labelled with instructions/tutorials etc.

Value for money is obvious, four top quality brushes for under £20, we're not doing too bad. I have noticed they are back to £20.99 now, but I'd still pay happily.

Quick Fire Review: Fearne Midnight Manicure.

A welcome but intriguing stocking filler, the Fearne Midnight Manicure is a bit of a winner.

In all honesty, I wasn't sure how much a nail polish set that retails at £12 for 7 bottles could achieve. But, my snobbish nail polish ways have been put in their place.

A mixture, of foil, sparkle and jelly finishes. They all apply like a dream, opaque in one coat, two for luck.

The polishes aren't named, so excuse the rudimentary explanation. But I'm in love with the blue shimmery polish in the set. It's a beaut.

You might be able to snap this up in the sale if you're lucky. It's worth a shot!

New Years "Blogolutions".

I'm not a massive believer in making a long list of resolutions. If you want to make a change, you don't need to wait until the January 1st to do it.

BUT

I feel today is a good as any to make a few blog based resolutions, maybe it'll inspire you to do the same?

1. Post Regularly, Post Well.

As much as I love it, The Beauty Spark is not my job. Inevitably life can get in the way and I can find a week has passed without a peep from me on here. I hope to change that, but I also hope to keep producing posts that I'm proud of. Sometimes I feel I need to post at any cost, and I'm not afraid to admit that I will write something a little bit half hearted just to keep up activity.

Right now, I'm feeling inspired. I have things I want to talk about, things I've discovered and things I want you all to know about.

2. Project Comment 2012.

Ask any blogger what they most enjoy about they do, and they will most probably answer that interaction with readers and other bloggers is one of the most rewarding parts of blogging.

I will be the first to admit, that despite being a big reader, I'm a terrible commenter. It's good to let people know what you think and share ideas, so I hereby pledge that when I read any post and think of something to say, I'll say it.

I won't however, be trawling every post I read and leaving a benign 'great post' comment, unless I mean it. Agreed?

3. Branch Out.

If you haven't already guessed, the majority of what The Beauty Spark is about is, well, Beauty. I adore talking, reading, watching beauty related things. But I also have other interests.

I've written posts in the past that don't fall into the 'beauty arena' and they have got a really positive response. Do you mind mixing it up on here, or would a separate 'extras' blog be better? I think I'd like to do it, but obviously I'd like you guys on board!

4. Enjoy, Relax.

It would be hard to miss that the blogging community has developed considerably over the last few years. When I began in 2009 (2009?!), it was a different place. I don't think all of the changes have been for the better, but similarly "blogger power" is an amazing thing that will only grow. Bloggers are being encouraged to think more strategically, more tactically about what they do. But remembering to enjoy your little corner of the internet and not get to focused on the mechanics is just as important. So I'm going to breath, keep doing what I do, and hope you enjoy it too.

So there we have it, blogolutions (it's a really terrible term isn't it?) on the table.

Let's make 2012 a good year, here's to hoping the Mayans got it wrong!

Santa obviously knows me well, as he decided to treat me to this little box of tricks this Christmas.

I haven't indulged in anything new from MAC in months, so it was a lovely treat to play with some bits and bobs.

The brushes excited me most as I am a brush fiend. They'll be perfect for travelling and I don't own either of these or anything similar.

As far as the eyeshadows go, they're all no-brainer shades. Not exactly pigmented, but decent matte shades that will definitely get used. As for Graphblack, you can't go wrong with black eyeliner!

However, the winner in this box is Zoom Lash.

I've never touched MAC mascara, as they never seem to get good press. But I'm actually really loving it. If you like the longer, separated lash look. Give this a go. It's becoming one of my new favourites.

I'm going to attempt to give this little lesson a go in the next week on video...so watch out for that!

Quick Fire Review: MeMeMe Seventh Heaven.

So, What Is It?!

Seventh Heaven bills itself as an 'Enriched Moisturising Facebase' - Decipher that one if you dare! I was unsure whether it was masquerading as a primer, moisturiser or just general glow giver. Apparently it's attempting to be all three...

First Impressions?

It packs a fresh, citrus punch that may leave those with more sensitive skins running for the hills, but in the name of beauty blogging it was slapped all over my face.

It feels smooth, soft and definitely gives your skin the sort of glow that is very much appreciated during the depths of winter. It's not greasy, which is a major bonus for a product like this, and sunk in pretty quickly.

How Did It Perform?

It certainly gave me a glow, but did almost tip into oily by the end of the day. How it wears on your skin is a real case of what your pair it with. I wouldn't dream of trying this with a face & body foundation and I won't be pairing this with MUFE HD again anytime soon, but if your skin is feeling a little bit de-hydrated, this really is the ticket.

I can't say I noticed a huge improvement to how my foundation applied, but It certainly didn't leave it streaky or clogged.

How Much?

It costs £15.00 for 30ml, which I was quite surprised at. It isn't out of the ordinary when you take MeMeMe's usual pricing into consideration. But I just don't think I'd splash the cash. My Glossybox sample was more than generous and unless It manages to change my mind as I use it more, I don't think I'll put this on the must have list. It is however, a nice little product.

Festive Nails: Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle & OPI Bastille My Heart

If you haven't noticed, I've been loving a bit of glitter on my nails. This OPI/Deborah Lippmann combination is the perfect festive treat.

Just stick a coat of OPI's gorgeous red shimmer on as a base coat, then slick a coat or two of Razzle Dazzle on top...then sit back and marvel at your sparkly digits.

You may recognise Razzle Dazzle as one of Glossybox's December Box treats, I love it! More importantly, I adore this month's Glossybox. It's my favourite yet. Even trumping the HD Brows Box, and you know how much I adore that palette!

Expect mini reviews on most of the product in the next few days, there are some corkers in there!

Christmas Sparkle: Metallic Eyes.

If there was ever an excuse to go all out with your make up, surely it has to be Christmas!

I've picked out my favourite products to create some stunning eye make up looks for the festive season...

Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Surge* & Precision Ink in Glister* are the most beautiful products to add a bit of shimmer to your lids this party season, It's obvious why Illamasqua's liquid metals are so well loved, this little pot of goodness has the power to turn you into the tin man if you desire, the most metallic of metal products!

Glister is amazing for those who don't want to go all out, how about inverting the usual black winged eyeliner and go for a smoky eye with this gorgeous champagne liner instead?

If you prefer warmer tones, I adore Sephora's Jumbo Liner in Copper. Use is at a base and go to town with a Bronze glitter pigment, or simply just line your eyes for an understated copper eye.

If you're looking for a treasure trove of delectable pigments, Barry M Dazzle Dusts really have it sewn up. I wouldn't look anywhere else for an affordable, but stunning range of pigments.

My personal favourites are 51 Mushroom, 89 Oyster & 24 Old Gold.

For a cheap glittery thrill, 2True Eyeliner Dazzlers must be applauded. At only £1.99, it's perfect for Christmas party make up. After all, I tend to stay away from glitter eyeliner unless I'm feeling festive, so what's the point of spending big money!?

If you want to go super subtle, try out 17's range of eyeshadow. They come in a range of colour's and won't disappoint when it comes to shimmer. My personal favourite in Mardi Gras!

Finally, when else would you get to put diamante dots on your face and get away with it?! You might aswell go all out, so try these by Girls with Attitude, apply with a bit of eyelash glue to ensure you don't lose them on the dancefloor, sorted!

Christmas Treat Jar.

Shh...this is technically a secret. BUT, I've decided spilling the beans is worth the risk as this Christmas gift idea is just too good not to share!

This year, I've been trying to think of cute, yet inexpensive gifts. This Christmas Treat/Pamper Jar has hit the jackpot!

The eagle eyed amongst you may recognise some Glossybox re-use here. I've taken the stuffing and ribbon to jazz up this simple jar, and then filled with lots of beauty goodies. I've stuffed the jar with a mixture of mini samples, bath goodies and bits and bobs. It's basically a 'Girls Night In' in a jar.

I sourced some 700ml preserve jars from eBay, I've searched high and low for the exact ones but can't find them, there are plenty of similar listings though! I paid £5.00 for 5 Jars with £5 delivery. Not bad for £2 jar!

You don't just have to go down the pamper route with your jars, maybe fill them with festive sweets, eats and treats? You can really go to town with the contents. The cherry on top is that after they've used the contents, a lovely glass jar can be filled with whatever they wish.

Now fingers crossed the secret doesn't reach the recipient....

The Big Perfume Project.

Everybody loves a good fragrance, and I'm definitely guilty of being a bit of a perfume hoarder.

Enter the Big Perfume Project 2011.

It's actually become a bit more of challenge than I originally thought, perfume doesn't diminish half as fast as I thought it did...

However, I've cleared through a few favourites and finished up some not so favourites, but it's all in the name of the BPP2011.

So far Jimmy Choo, Nina by Nina Ricci & *ahem* Katie Price Stunning have been all drained. I was loathed to finish Nina as it's my all time favourite perfume, and I'm already missing squirting a bit of Jimmy on a regular basis. I must admit these three feel like the cheaters way out as they were my most used. Now the challenge really begins!

If I can finish at least another two bottles I'm going to treat myself to something new, I've got my eye (and nose) on Vera Wang's Lovestruck, what do you think? I'm trying to plough through a large bottle of Rock Princess but wouldn't mind branching out.

I'll keep you updated on the progress and please let me know if you're doing the same!

I appear not to have posted anything for the past week, lets remedy that with a good old favourites post!

If you've read my post on the Dermalogica Skin Kit here, you may recognise this mini skin prep scrub. It's really done the job so far and I'm considering getting the full size when it runs out. In other news, I'm currently embarking on a massive perfume project - basically using them all up - as I really cannot justify a new scent until I've atleast drained a few bottles. The upside to this is that I've rediscovered some killer fragrances. Vivienne Westwood Boudoir wasn't a fragrance I ever thought I'd go for, but it's a lovely feminine powdery scent that, not surprisingly, evokes the feeling of sitting at a dressing table, touching up your lipstick in a mirror surrounded by lightbulbs.

To continue with the theme of scent, I'm back on the Christmas Cookie bandwagon. When I start to burn this bad boy, you know that Santa is coming to town.

I appear to have been leading with my nostrils in this favourites instalment as the first thing I want to rave about when I think about the Label M Shine Spray is that smells divine, like watermelons. It helps that it does a good job of keeping my hair shiny and healthy looking, bonus points all around.

Finally, it's over to the mascaras. I'm a little bit loathed to mention Prestige's My Blackest Lashes as it has apparently disappeared from the British High Street. I've been trying to track it down online, but it's not been particularly successful, boo!

Body Shop have surprised me with their Super Volume Mascara, I didn't expect much but I'm sporting lovely full thick lashes today, thanks!

Try Before You Buy: Dermalogica Skin Kit.

Denouncing Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish has brought about two small, but irritating problems.

1. C&P was one of my staple skincare items, without it I was left in the dermal wilderness, just me, a packet of simple wipes and a cry of despair.

2. I'd gotten into a lazy, loveless relationship with C&P. I hadn't bothered to see what was on the market, and quite frankly didn't care. So, when it came to committing myself to a new skincare routine, I was less than enthusiastic about getting back out on the market.

Enter Dermalogica Skin Kit.

It came from the most unlikely of sources. My Stepdad. Like a skincare cupid he threw this kit my way after being given it somewhat inexplicably at work.

But, when one is handed Dermalogica, one accepts with no questions...

The kit itself comes with 4 generous samples and a full size lip treatment. Not bad for the £18.00 price tag I've found it here for.

Included is:

Special Cleansing Gel 50ml.

Multi-Active Toner 50ml.

Skin Prep Scrub 22ml.

Active Moist 22ml.

Climate Control Lip Treatment (Full Size).

Hidden behind the cardboard is also a sachet of pre-cleanse and a face mask, which is a nice bonus, and a sneaky surprise as I only found them today...

As far as performance goes, I'm getting on well with most of it. The Cleanse/Tone part of the kit have filled a gaping hole and are doing a sterling job without sending my skin around the bend. I have however, refused to take a gamble on the moisturiser, I'm sticking with Oilatum for now.

I was most excited about the Skin Prep Scrub as the absense of a daily polish with a muslin cloth had left my skin as dull as a tramps pants.

The 'Climate Control Lip Treatment' isn't anything to write home about, but it's a good one to chuck in the handbag.

Overall, if you're sticking a tentative toe back into the skincare pool after breaking up with a beloved, or just fancy a change. Dermalogica have got it all wrapped up.

Lush Rose Jam.

I went in for Snow Fairy, I left with Rose Jam.

What Do Lush Say About It?

A bath that helps you get out of it feeling better than when you got in. With lemon to bring clarity and alertness and rose to lift the spirits. The geranium oil in here will balance the skin, whilst the coconut oil and shea butter will leave you feeling smooth and soft.

The fragrance in Rose Jam was invented by Simon. Every year he visits Turkey during the rose harvest to see our rose absolute being produced. He talks about the smell of roses in the fields in the hot Turkish sun and the lunchtimes sat out eating rose jam with Hassan, our rose grower. The rest of us here at Lush think he’s jammy to have this aspect of the job - and we notice that it is always tales he brings back to us, not pots of the actual jam!

The Verdict?

Lush have really hit the nail on the head with this little sweet treat.

If I could eat it, I would. Seriously.

Yesterday I went to Lakeland and picked up a few baking bits and bobs, I couldn't help it!

Obviously that meant today was a baking day...

The results were Vanilla Cupcakes with Pink Buttercream Icing & Victoria Sponge Cupcakes!

After trying a few cupcake recipes in the past, I decided to go with Milly's recipe, she always whips up delicious treats so I knew they'd turn out well!

I gave the Victoria Sponge cupcakes a jam core, yum yum yum! I again sneaked the idea from Milly here!

I'm going to sit down with a cupcake and cup of tea...

I went in with the full intention of buying some black 'Leigh' jeans, but on a whim took these into the changing rooms as well, I obviously left with these instead. They just felt more 'sturdy' and according to the Topshop lady in the changing rooms, were less likely to go baggy like most of the Topshop jeans I've had.

The Fail-safe.

In an ideal world, I'd create some sort of inventive and interesting look to wear everyday. Yet as we all know too well, life just gets in the way! Recently, I've fell into a very lazy, yet pleasant routine.

It's just one paint pot, and one eyeshadow. You can't get any easier, and this my friends is why it's a fail-safe...

The two products in question are MAC's Paint Pot in Bare Study & MAC Jest Eyeshadow.

Both greatly loved, and never let you down.

It really is a case of slapping Bare Study over the lid, then pressing Jest over the top. It pretty much doesn't even warrant an explanation, you could probably do it in the dark.

What's your fail-safe eye combination, I'd love to know!

Princess Nails.

As previously mentioned in the last post, I'm slightly obsessed with Models Own Pink Fizz at the moment.

If you add Deborah Lipmann's Polish in Before He Cheats, the result is surprisingly wearable Princess Nails! Apologies for the awful winter cuticles...I've misplaced my Wonderbalm and it's killing me.

It's a match made in sugar sweet heaven and makes a welcome change from my usual dark winter nail, the only downfall? You will find yourself staring at aforementioned glitter nail and making it sparkle in the light, possibly not one for those with attention issues...(myself included).

I first saw this delectable trio over on Hannah's blog, and I am blaming this purchase entirely on her...! If you want to see more accurate swatches, check her out too.

I swooped into my local River Island and found the trio nestled amongst a few other polishes at the till, it was meant to be. It cost me £10 for three wonderful glittery polishes, what's not the love!

I'm currently sporting baby pink nails with a pink fizz glitter nail. I think it's my new favourite thing. I'm serious. It's definitely the winner out of the three.

I'm currently fighting the urge to paint my entire hand with Pink Fizz, someone might have to restrain me.

Product of the Week: Moroccan Oil.

So, I finally took the plunge and tried Moroccan Oil.

I'm so glad I did!

My hair was feeling dry and lacking in life.

I just run a tiny amount through damp hair, blow dry and I'm left with shiny, silky hair!

Thanks to the rain the hair snapshot above is looking a little frizz-tastic, but hopefully you get the idea

It's not the cheapest product on the market, but a pea sized amount is enough my long hair. It's going to last the distance.

Something Old, Something New.

I toddled off to a vintage fair a few weeks ago with a few friends and left with this little jumper.

I think I paid about £6 for it, and it's satisfying my winter jumper craving!

The rest of this outfit is quite frankly not worth mentioning, yes I am wearing black skinny trousers and black boots!

Lost & Found.

You may recall me mourning the loss of a Sephora jumbo eyeliner pencil that appeared to disappear in transit, turns out I'd put it away 'for safekeeping' in the box of my MUFE HD foundation, and may have actually done a little dance when I found it. The reason? It's bloody lovely!

I picked this Jumbo Eyeliner in the shade 06 Copper on a whim, I was lured by it's silky smooth texture and the promise of 12 hr wear.

It reminded me a lot of the Urban Decay Glide On 24/7 Shadow Pencils, that retail for about £14 in the UK, so I was hoping for a similar product for €9.

To put it briefly, It's definitely in the same league.

It applies smoothly and it a beautiful, rich copper colour. It doesn't crease on me, but that doesn't mean to say it won't on you! I can however, report that these things are waterproof. Only an oil based make up remover will budge this from my eyelids. I can actually imagine this being great for the summer.

What makes this stand out is the fact that it can be applied in seconds, and make me look like I've been packing on colour like nobodies business. I'm all about instant gratification...

I almost feel bad for spilling the beans about this product as I know it's almost impossible to get hold of in the UK. Yet another reason Sephora needs to come back!

I've been trying desperately to mix it up in the make up department this month, I'd got into a bit of a rut with my products and needed to start actually using the stuff I own. MAC Rebel & Barry M Touch of Magic lipsticks have come out on top this month, both applied as lip stains. They leave a sheer just bitten colour to my lips and add just the right amount of winter berry for daytime.

Despite trying to branch out, I've been faithful to two cheek products this month, NARS Penny Lane Cream Blush is nearly done so I've been devoting myself to it the name of project 10 pan. ELF Mineral Blush in Coral has also made a comeback this month, I'm definitely favouring the subtle flush of colour on the cheeks this month and letting my lips do the talking...

To continue with the theme of trying something new, I've broken my never-ending affair with OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark and I'm really enjoying wearing Barry M Navy Nail Paint. It's a variation of theme but it's a beaut.

I Got The Potion.

On my recent trip over the France, I decided to take the plunge and purchase MUFE HD Foundation. I've wanted to try it 'in the flesh' for a while as I'm not really one for buying foundation online.

I ended up picking up the shade 117 from the range and it's a lovely foundation. It's a medium coverage, easily blendable foundation that photographs beautifully...as you would expect. I nearly bulked at the price (nearly £30), but, when in France.

But, the HD Foundation alone is not what I want to talk about, I've been up to my usual blending tricks again and I think I've found my new favourite combination.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light + MUFE HD = Love.

Now, in theory this should be a disaster. I'm mixing a light, water based foundation with a heavier, gel based product that has a built in SPF...not exactly a match made in heaven.

BUT

It really works! I've never been a fan of Doublewear Light on it's own, but mixed with the HD foundation, it gives that extra coverage I sometimes crave & adds a bit of longevity to the base.

I use equal amounts of each product and just blend on the hand and apply with my Sigma Round Top Kabuki Brush.

Hello Scary, No Holds Barred Close Up.

Although I loath having to talk about Christmas in October, I had this cute little gift set through my door a few weeks ago and had to give you all a heads up.

Label M & Giles Deacon have joined forces again to create a set of Christmas goodies. The stocking filler giftbox comes with a mini Colour Stay Shampoo & Conditioner, Shine Spray & Blow Out Spray.

Giles has created a lovely clutch to accompany the collection, I'm a sucker for gold studding, so it's a winner!

Although the gift set itself doesn't come with the clutch, the packaging has hints of the print on it, which is a lovely touch for those who don't want to spend hours wrapping!

Connock London Kukui Oil Nourishing Hand Cream.

I first came across Connock when I fell in love with their Wonder Balm , now Connock have released a nourishing hand cream that again harnesses the power of Kukui Oil.

I'm already a massive fan of the Wonder Balm, it sits in my handbag and I use it on a daily basis, so it has to be said, hopes were high for the hand cream. Winter is drawing in faster than I'd like it to, so a good hand cream is top of my list!

I'm happy to say, that I've called off the search. Connock's cream does everything I could wish for. The cream itself is a rich formulation that absorbs within moments. I cannot stand creams that leave my hand feeling greasy, It needs to moisturise but not leave residue. Connock ticks all the boxes.

Packaging is functional yet chic, it fits with the existing range and I love the pump that comes with the tube, less mess, less waste, sorted!

The cream is quite strongly scented, but I don't mind it at all. It leaves skin feeling super smooth and supple but most importantly it leaves it feeling like skin. I don't feel like I've applied anything too heavy and for this alone I give Connock top marks.

At £18.50 it's not the cheapest cream on the market, but sometimes you have to invest. Smooth soft hands in winter is something i'm willing to shell out for.

Connock are fast becoming one my brand to watch out for in 2011-12.

Product of the Week: Sephora Waterproof Eye Make Up Remover.

On my recent trip across the channel, it would have been rude not to pop into Sephora. Despite not actually buying a huge amount, I had to pop this into my basket when I saw it.

I recently ran out of my Clinique Take the Day Off Make Up Remover and this looked suspiciously similar. The ingredients also tell an incredibly similar story.

Well the verdict is...It's just as good. It eradicates any trace of stubborn eye make up and does the job just fine!

It was a tiny €3 for 50ml, unlike Clinique's £14.50 for 125ml.

The only drawback? It's from Sephora...

I had to plump for the 50ml bottle as I was only travelling with hand luggage, how I wish I'd picked up another bottle as it's not going to last long.

I Look Like Yes and You Look Like No.

We're back to shoddy DIY outfit photo's, But I've found a nice big new mirror to take advantage of!

Currently obsessed with this green Aquascutum jumper, it's a blatant sibling cast off but it's too good to pass up.

Obsessed with this ring combo at the moment, I picked the gold multi band up in France for a couple of euro, it's the right balance between statement and understated, does that make sense?!

I've been pretty much living in this sort of outfit for a few weeks - jumper, black skinny jeans, collar, boots -sorted.

Right, after all of the outfit love, a bit of a disappointment. I tried some of the Charles Worthington Purity Shampoo & Conditioner (before I took these pictures actually) and I couldn't believe how dry it made my hair feel. It felt like straw, for the literals. I had it down in curls for about 10 mins after these snaps, then it was up in a bun before I went out of the house, vile.

How To: Halloween Horror.

When it comes to Halloween, I'm far more inclined to go all blood and guts or silly dressing up, rather than the Mean Girls approach..."I'm a Mouse...Duh".

If you want to add some really gorey wounds to yourself but don't know how...keep reading!

You Will Need:

Foundation

Special FX Wax

Eyelash Glue

Brown Eyeshadow

Purple Eyeshadow (I used Purple Face Paint)

Cake Blood (Available from most fancy dress shops)

Cotton Buds

Disposable (Sacrificial) Make Up Sponge.

STEP 1.

I'm going to do this on my hand, but it looks amazing on the forehead, chest etc. It really can go anywhere you please.

I've just added a thin layer of the foundation onto my hand, I've gone slightly lighter to help with the dead/blood drained look...how lovely.

STEP 2.

I've used Special FX Wax as it's the easiest thing to create a realistic hole, but if you can't get hold of it or don't want to spend the money, you can build up the layers with tissue and eyelash glue.

FX Wax Method: Simply scrap some out of the pot with handle of a spoon and any small spatchula and role into two small sausages. Attach with eyelash glue onto the hand, don't worry at the moment if it looks odd, it gets better!

STEP 3.

Simply blend the wax into the skin using the spatchula until it begins to look like part of you!

STEP 4.

Now this step takes a bit of patience, but it really worth it as it seals the wax in place. It's a must if you're going to a party as the wax will move around!

Now, let this dry.

STEP 5.

Now, just build up the foundation, it still will look a little 'rustic' and the foundation I'm using here photographs ridiculously yellow, but trust me it should match your skin!

It doesn't matter if it doesn't look perfect, at the end of the day it's a bloody wound, it's not going to look like a neat surgery incision!

STEP 6.

Go to town with the brown, purple and cake blood!

I'm afraid I got a little bit carried away and didn't take a picture of the inbetween stage, but you should be left with something like this. There really isn't a hard and fast way to do this, just go to town and do what you want.

Firstly, major props to my Konjac Sponge this month, it's carried on doing the job and I'm using half the cleanse & polish I would usually consume so it's a winner for the bank balance too. I literally haven't taken OPI Lincoln Park After Dark off my nails this month, I tried to switch it up but took off the lovely peach I had on after about 10 minutes, of course you can't do a glossy dark nail without a healthy coat of Seche Vite. I finally got around to buying Illamasqua Skin Base in full size, and surprisingly when I got the counter, I realised that Shade 6 was perfect for me, unlike the 4/5 mix I had been using.

Molton Brown have really been proving themselves to me this month, I'm obsessed with Apuldre & Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod Bath & Shower Gel is to die for. I've also been fully converted to balms this month, Connock Wonderbalm has taken up residence in my handbag for lips, cuticles etc and I've loved Moa Green Balm when I fancy a change, Moa has far more of herbal/medicinal feel to it and it's just the ticket. Finally I haven't touched my beloved MAC Espresso for brows since the HD Brows Kit came into the picture.

A final random favourite is my Forever 21 Owl Ring, it's so dainty and I haven't had the hint of green finger from it, even in this unseasonal heat! I think I paid £1.50 for this, by far the best buy of the month.

Now, I don't want to blame this entirely but after giving the sample of StriVectin a go, I had a bit of a strange skin reaction, very red, spotty and not nice. Considering this is the only new skincare item I've put near my face this month, I'm going to have to blame this. Sorry StriVectin!

I haven't used Revlon Colorstay for ages, but, I used it yesterday and It felt vile, smelt vile and I can't remember why on earth I loved this before, unless it's gone funny in the bottle, it's a big thumbs down.

Molton Brown Navigations Through Scent.

I feel I've grown up with Molton Brown, and they are a brand that I will, for better or worse, associate with my mother.

Something about the brand evokes a sense of classic elegance and sophistication, therefore when they announced they were launching their new unisex fragrance line, Navigations Through Scent, I couldn't help but accept the chance to experience the range.

The whole concept of the line intregues me, five scents that evoke the spirit of five different destinations, in the format of London via...

Singosari - London via Indonisia

Apuldre - London via Kent

Lijang - London via China

Rogart - London via Canada

Iunu - London via Eygpt

Before I dive head first into the olfactory jazz, I'd like to just spend a moment appreciating the beautiful bottle it comes in.

It's the simple elegance with a luxurious edge that you'd expect from Molton Brown, I was in love before it even left the box.

To briefly break down the five scents, each come with a brief synopsis.

Singosari: “May Contain Wonder. Follow the ancient spice trail to the islands of Indonesia. Blood-warmmonsoon rains. Ruined temples and lush green jungles. Exotic. Steamy. Haunting.”

Alpudre: “May Contain Mischief. Twilight on a summer's day, in the garden of England. Picnic blankets on fresh cut grass. Fizz and Gin. Irreverent. Cheeky. A bit mad.”

Rogart:“May Contain Adventure. Beat a retreat to the Cobequid Mountains of Nova Scotia. Log cabins and campfires. Cosy nights under northern lights. Bracing. Rugged. Slightly smoky.”

Iunu: “May Contain Magic. A long lost legend from Heliopolis, the lost City of the Sun. Sultry nights, steeped in jasmine. The hazy heat of a Delta Dawn. Warm. Slightly Dark. Sublime.”

Ljiang: “May contain Serenity. Set sail on a bamboo raft, along the banks of the River Li. Silk billowing in the breeze. A sip of steaming white tea. Crisp. Fresh. Almost edible.”

To throw my two cents into the ring, Rogart & Iunu are very heavy, masculine scents that are reflected in the heavy base notes that come through, despite not being to my taste, Rogart does evoke a curious picture of a Canadian wilderness, MB have hit the nail on the head. I find it slightly too sweet and suffocating on my own skin as it develops into something I just cannot grow to like, but hats off for sticking to the brief.

Iunu is a similar story, it's a rich spicy scent that I just screams out as a gorgeous masculine scent, yet for me it's a no go.

Yet, Singosari is by far the stand out male scent in the five, it's a spicy grown up fragrance that hits sensual notes of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vetvier. Simply divine.

I decided to go for Alpudre as the description alone sold it to me, fizz and gin are right up my street!

Apuldre is the polar opposite to anything I currently own in terms of fragrance, yet I couldn't love it anymore. It evokes exactly as the description reads, it's fresh yet lingering and blends beautifully on my own skin. The base notes of leather & styrax absolute give it a different twist that I've never encountered in a unisex fragrance before and it leaves a modern fragrance to die for.

I haven't touched any of the my other perfumes since this landed on my doorstep.

Lastly, Lijang is the only fragrance I couldn't comment on as I'm yet to smell it, but hints of white tea, pink berries and musk sound like the makings of a perfect feminine scent.

I've been on the look out for a Aztec/Tribal print tshirt for a while that isn't in a multitude of colours, I found it tucked away in my local New Look. It strikes the right balance between embracing the trend but still sitting comfortably within my own style. Lovely!

I've cracked out my trusty H&M Black Trousers again, I really want another pair but cannot for the life of me find any...Le sigh.

Do you like to embrace trends feet first, or prefer to blend them in a little more subtly to your wardrobe?

I picked up these lovely little shoe-boots from Primark about a week ago, and despite me wanting to click my heels, go all Dick van Dyke circa Chim Chimney on you, they really hit the nail on the head.

For a quick fashion fix, you really can't go wrong, they were £15, feel sturdy and surprisingly good quality for Primarche...

The downside? I've found that I only like them with black skinny trousers/jeggings/jeans. Anything else I feel like a bit of a dweeb. Any other suggestions??

Liz Earle Sheer Skin Tint.

I had planned to take some lovely outfit pictures for you all today, but helpfully, the weather is disgusting and the light is virtually non existent (my room could give the black hole of Calcutta a run for it's money)

ANYWAY

As the title suggests, I'm giving Liz Earle's first foray into the make up world a whirl.

The A/W Newsletter fell through my letterbox this morning, with a useful pack of samples to colour match yourself with the Skin Tint.

First impressions show that we're not looking at a vast range in the shade department, and I can imagine this product not being suitable for deeper skintones (Oh Liz...).

Above is a painfully close up shot of the product, slapped on with my fingers. It's all natural here, no concealer, no powder, just pure Liz Earle Skin Tint.

First Impressions?

For a tinted moisturiser it's nice, it applies smoothly and is buildable to some degree, although I think i'd still pop some concealer around my eyes if I was going to brave any public engagement.

It doesn't leave me too shiny yet leaves me looking healthy, which is always a bonus.

The product contains mineral SPF 15, a whole host of botanical ingredients (avocado oil, borage seed oil and vitamin E) to provide the type of skincare/make up hybrid you'd expect from Liz Earle.

The Verdict.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be rushing out to purchase this product, simply because I have a several foundation/tinted moisturisers on the go, but, I will definitely consider giving this a chance as it's a lovely product. The shade range does leave a lot to be desired but for considering this is the first dipped toe into the world of cosmetics for Liz Earle, I congratulate them.

Product Rave: Konjac Sponge.

If, like me, you slap a plethora of lotions & potions onto your face on a daily basis, you might, like I did, reach breaking point.

I began to feel like the multitude of products that made up my skincare routine just weren't cutting the mustard anymore and if anything, were making my skin even more temperamental that It had ever been.

Enter the Konjac Sponge.

I've heard whisperings about the beneficial properties of Konjac (for the unitiated, Konjac fibre is made up from the root of the Amorphophallus Konjac Plant) and an all natural, gentle sponge sounded just the ticket for my skin. I must also mention that this is a runaway hit in Asia, and haven't we all learnt by now, listen to the Asian beauty market when it comes to skincare!?

I opted for the Konjac sponge with French Green Clay as it claimed to be the best for Normal/Oily skin, the Konjac Sponge comes au natural, with Red French Clay for Dry & Sensitive Skin, Pink Clay for Tired Skin & Bamboo Charcoal for Teen or Acne Prone Skin.

When the sponge arrived, I was a little bit dubious, it looks a little bizarre, and has a distinct vegetable smell (not suprisingly).

BUT

I decided to try the sponge on it's own (you can add your regular cleanser to it if you desire) and I couldn't believe how clean and soft my skin felt afterwards.

You simply soak the sponge in warm water and then buff away like you would with a regular sponge, It couldn't be easier to fit this into your existing routine, I've simply hung it up next to my sink to dry inbetween washes - it's a no brainer.

I've now settled into the routine of just using the sponge in the morning, then using a pea sized amount of Liz Earle C&P in the evening first, then using the sponge after i've rinsed.

So, why is this a rave?

1. The condition of my skin has dramatically improved since I began to use this sponge: it's clear, the tone looks better and any t-zone issues have balanced out. Now, I'm not going to attribute this entirely to the sponge, I believe it might be the simplification of my skincare routine as a whole, but boy, was this the catalyst.

2. The Price: A sponge costs £5.99 and will on average, last you about 3 months if cared for properly. That's a fraction of the price of my regular cleanser.

3. It's natural, it's biodegradable, and will make you feel a little bit green!

Francois Nars has been working his magic again at NYFW with Marc Jacobs.

TREND: Strong Eyes, Glowing Skin & Nude, Glossy Lips.

INSPIRATION:

“Marc had a lot of images of Patsy Klein, Amy Winehouse, and Cowboy Kate, a book from the 60's whose character Kate had heavy eyelashes," said Founder and Creative Director François Nars. "The complexion is meant to look like it's glowing, like the girls have been dancing, and by eliminating the blush it gives a strange, otherworldly effect. The focus was really on the eye, with a well-defined brow. The combination of different touches creates a decadent, French sensuality and makes the girls more like characters."

Burberry Body.

You might be aware that Burberry have been sending out a plethora of samples to promote the new fragrance, Burberry Body.

When it comes to Burberry fragrances, I've always seemed to stay away. I really have no idea why this is the case, they've just never seemed like they were for me.

But hey, if Rosie Huntingdon-Whitely is fronting the campaign, it's worth a try right?!

With hints of Peach, Freesia, Iris, Rose & Green Absinthe, the result is a fresh, yet feminine fragrance that develops (on my skin) into a soft wearable fragrance that cuts a fine line between sweet & refreshing.

Now, I'm not perfume expert, but I'm impressed. I think this may be the perfect transition perfume between the sweet, fruity scents of summer and the darker, woodier winter fragrances.

I'm in love with contrast trim shirts at the moment, H&M and New Look are coming up trumps with cheap thrill shirts like this, what's not to love! The camera flash has made it look a little bit see through, but it's much more opaque like the close up photo.

Keeping with the theme, I've whipped out the old H&M Suede Contrast Leggings, I've not worn these for ages and they're a nice re-discovery.

I've not actually got a single piece of jewellery on with this look, I just wasn't in the mood!

I'm also really into curling my hair at the moment, I just roughly blow dry then curl the end before running some shine spray through to get rid of any major frizz.

Finally, thumbs up to the Broseph for taking a full length shot of me as self timer is still not my friend.

A Sneak Peek...Glossybox September Edition.

I mentioned in my last Glossybox Event post that I even though I liked the idea of the service, I wouldn't be able to make a final decision without recieving a 'blind' box.

Well, here it is, the September Glossybox.

It contained:

I was estastic when I found that the star of the show was the HD Brow Palette, as I'm more than a little obsessed with filling in my brows and have been lusting after some HD Brows for ages. This might not be the '7 Steps' but it's a lovely brow powder than can double as an eyeshadow quad.

As far as the other products go, I've not heard of single one. I have been impressed with the Moa Green Balm and Green People Day Solution, they're organic and so far they feel lovely on the skin. (I have a feeling the Green Balm will be gone by the end of the week).

The one product i'm not crazy about is Plum by Mary Greenwell. It's a little 'old school' in smell for my taste, but hey, you win some, you lose some, and in my opinion Glossybox's September offering is a winner overall.

You may also rememeber that I mentioned the Gift Subscription service was being sprung into action, and the latest update is it will be available in time for Christmas.

I still stand by my thoughts that this really isn't a bloggers ideal service, but for a friend or relative, it could be a lovely present!

Wonder Balm.

You may recognise this little gem from my previous Glossybox post, it was where we were first acquainted.

Since the fateful day that I placed this into my box, it's been a bit of a whirlwind romance.

Connock have really delivered on a big claim: the name 'Wonder Balm' will conjure up some miraculous expectations after all...

Inside the plain functional packaging lies an unoffensive balm that melts into a nourishing balm once applied. The balm itself contains Kukai Oil, Monoi, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil and Shea Butter.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what on earth Kukai Oil is, whatever it is, it's doing the trick. It appears to nourish without leaving an oily residue, considering it's balm/oily texture when applied it's nothing short of brilliant.

I've been religiously slapping this on my poor dry cuticles and lips, we're only just into autumn and they've been crying out for hydration. Cue Wonder Balm in my bag, pocket, on my bedside table. Although I've been restricting the use of this product to just two areas, you can slap it on anywhere you feel a bit dry,

At £18.50 for 10ml of product, we're not talking about a bargain find. But I will gladly repurchase this if it keeps on doing the job.

So, why do I love this little pot so much?

Well, it's all natural, and it's almost artisan in it's approach, passed down from father to daughter. It's a lovely story.

Hola,

Despite the weather seemingly turning vile the moment 1st September hit, there's always the fact that fall fashion is back to celebrate.

I picked up this chunky knit jumper from Primark and it hits all the right notes, it's cosy, neutral and is knitted slightly higher in the front than the back.

I'm also rejoicing about the return of the black jegging/boot combo that never seems to fall off my fashion radar. It's a classic staple which I'm sure you'll see a lot from me in the coming months!

Glossybox.

Last week I popped along to Glossybox, I've been reserving my judgement on the new trend for sample services, and I feel now that I'm fully equip to give you my opinion.

Believe it or not, this is the only picture I have as it was a flying visit and I was having far too much fun.

The evening was a real opportunity to learn a bit more about the Glossybox concept and more importantly, how they want to take it further.

One of the most interesting points I took away from the evening was that Glossybox isn't aiming itself towards bloggers, it's for women that have a interest in beauty but want to find out more.

Granted, there appear to be issues with consistancy of product and tailoring towards the client, but these appeared to be things Glossybox are more than keen to work on.

There is talk of a gift subscription service and fully customised boxes, these both interest me far more than the current monthly subscription of £12.95.

Whilst I was at the event, we had the chance to create our very own Glossybox, it was probably the best pick 'n' mix i've ever had the pleasure of doing!

I will admit, ahem, that I used a Betty Crocker kit, but hey, it was spur of the moment!

Welcome to the Theatre of the Nameless...

Illamasqua's A/W offering comes in the form of the Theatre of the Nameless, a potent mixture of decadence and decay that takes Illamasqua back to it's dark roots, evoking images of 1920's Berlin and ladies of the night.

Alex Box has once again worked her magic to produce some amazing imagery to accompany the collection, I cannot get enough of the image above!

I popped along to the launch of the Theatre of the Nameless on Thursday and was absolutely taken by the collection. It hits the right notes on every level, there's glitter (Beguile, Zeitguist & Berber) pigments, to die for cream pigments (Androgen & Depravity) and I just could not mention the amazing rubber/wax finish polishes (Kink, Vice, Faux Pas & Taint).

I'll be honest, I was too busy sipping my cocktail and rubbing glitter all over myself to take many pictures, but I click HERE to look at Zoe's far more detailed account of the evening.

I had an amazing time at the launch, yet disaster struck later on in the evening as a taxi rudely drove off with my goody bag, I could have cried right on Oxford St!

The Right Tools for the Job...

I am a big believer in the philosophy "pick the right tools for the job and your products will work much harder for you"...ok, ok, that's not exactly from the lips of Aristotle or Socrates but you get the jist!

FACE

Sigma F82

I've flirted with an entire range of foundation/base brushes in the past, I've tried a the flat foundation brush, the duo fibre stippling brush, sponges, beauty blenders etc and this brush delivers the most flawless base. It buffs in without streaking and can leave you with an undectable but perfect base.

MAC 129

If you're just beginning to build up a set of brushes, this should be near the top of your list. It's a dense, soft blush brush that places colour and blends with ease.

MAC 130

Not an essential, but a bloody good extra. It can blends under eye concealer in a heartbeat and can be used with a multitude of products, this foundation, concealer, cream blush, highlighter, powderong in specific areas.

MAC 224

Another essential brush, the 224 is not only a fabulous blending brush but acts as a wonderful concealing brush, used in a light blending motion it can give you a soft focus effect to die for.

EYES

MAC 239

One of the most useful tools in your kit if you want to pack of colour and get the best out of your shadows, the 239 is the perfect brush to get started with.

I find this the perfect partner for gel eyeliner, it's precise enough to create a thin line but can hold it's own if you fancy something a little more dramatic. It's also incredibly useful for doing specific cover up jobs on any blemishes you may have (obviously sanitising inbetween!).

R&M Eye Define (MAC 208)

Although this brush is no longer available, the MAC 208 or any small angled eyeshadow brush will do the same job. This is an absolute eyebrow essential if you like to fill your brows in. It's gives you a lovely natural look whilst still looking neat and tidy. Use it to add colour under the lower lash line too.

Sigma F45

An absolute lifesaver for those with more hooded eyes or those with smaller socket spaces. It can give you precise crease colour placement and blend out with ease.

I couldn't live without these three tools in my everyday routine. Lash curlers make any mascara work that little bit harder and Shu always come up trumps, An eyebrow spoolie is a must for keeps brows in shape, and Tweezers are a no brainer for those who like to look groomed.

I appear to be a bit of a 'Topshopper' today, Despite the fact that Topshop has largely fallen out of favour due to it's astronomical pricing, I appear to have bought a few lovely things lately. I bought the shorts to wear on holiday, and even though they are ludicrously short to wear without tights, I like them.

Right, must dash, I'm off to hopefully see The Inbetweeners film!

Good Enough to Eat: Collection 2000 Cream Puff

Recently, Collection 2000 seem to be upping their game, several products have become buzz worthy in the past few months, and I finally decided to see what all the fuss is about and give the new Cream Puff lip creams a whirl, with a name like that, how could I refuse!?

NARS-esque matte packaging sets the tone for the product, good quality, matte, and lovely!

I plumped for Powder Puff (left) and Fairy Cake (right) and couldn't wait to give them a go.

They are unlike anything i've seen either in the high street or in the realms of high end make up. It's a lightweight, matte lip cream that leaves a lovely finish to the lips. If you're a sucker for sweet smelling products these do not dissapoint, hello sweet cream cakes!

Whilst they don't leave your lips looking like they've been out in the desert for weeks, they inevitably will highlight even a hint of chapped skin so make sure you prep well before applying, Fairy Cake is far more forgiving than Powder Puff, despite diligent preparation it still called out even the smallest bit of dryness on my lips.

For £2.99 these are a novel little product that can add a hint of something different to your everyday look, a must have? I wouldn't say so, but they're good fun and smell good enough to eat, i'll take some to takeaway please!
